Eyeshine

    I remember the world like a picture.
    The habitat of trees and sense impressions,
    the cover of leaves as fall spurred its way
    thru corridors of plasma forest & sarsen stone.

    Most of all, I saw illuminated clearly
    the brash self poke of logic that came
    massively when sunlight stirred, lilted
    its early head erasing the world thru
    sand crusts of colour.

    The cabin floor, a cold dawn infinity,
    was a chilblain on frosty morning shadows -
    the old cupboards staring like flowers
    through a break in the leaves
    watched till the latches & hinges were worlds
    in frozen power, dark rust as thoughts
    meandering like age.

I touch your
face - where strands of whispery hair
dangle your thoughtful gaze through mine.

Clutching,
all the words not said
lie pale and broken
beneath forgery lies.


Eyes, our facial minnows, the mirror
images, flash too brightly
out of the shallows,
out of their stony commitments
towards believing
we cannot agree.

Imagistic

    There in the cosmos -
    white dwarfs launch a black rooftop
    imagistic, clean as a pantry,
    the twilight roads with ledges lean
    like raw openings.

    And coming upon stars
    in a country woodhouse
    - cold, big as frozen pears,
    each breath of light visible
    thru chinks & clusters
    of broken ceiling wood;
    hands raw & nipped sawing logs -
    breath menacing the depths
    on inner space, something pale
    and profoundly suggestive.

Mirage

    The intense focus of light
    but pointillism,
    into this juncture bits of light
    surround rough, inverted sky -
    dawn is their message
    unfurled about
    the alumni apparatus
    of incensed eyes
    and whispered sun.

    The heavy mirage of dots,
    landscape locked
    Seurat, a frieze of summer heat
    choking water lilies -
    the sun as a crystal ship
    adrift across
    bedlam-sponsored
    random dots.

Unfolding gazes
throw over
the little reality
surly door.
The dumb
clatter
of ripples
shudder the better life.

    Having wilderness cracks
    in emotional facades
    chinks within
    to let cabins in.

    Porous wind
    examining pavement,
    foot-sore maybe loose
    winding entrails
    of our hearts
    into lavatory paper;
    would that it pleased
    riddled trees
    - more whistling,
    poked holes
    across oasis tracks
    wandering spaces.

    Blistering thought,
    paint flecks
    chipped in the mica-afraid
    heat of wan-ton passion;
    (acknowledging debts to Chinese cuisine)
    a wan smile
    left from which
    I pretend to remember all.

    Love-smitten
    to lend
    the reach of your arm -
    sighs,
    droop...
